Fat Types and Their Sources
---------------------------------------------------------------------
HDL: High-density lipoprotein ("Good" cholesterol)
Clears the blood of artery-clogging cholesterol.
LDL: Low-density liprotein ("Bad" cholesterol)
Deposits on artery walls, causing obstructions.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
1. (WORSE) Saturated Fats:
Foods from animals, such as meat, milk, butter, tropical
vegetable oils (coconut and palm oil).
Raises LDL. Lowers HDL.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Trans Fats:
Margarine, cake, potato chips, fast-food, french fries, other
processed foods.
May increase LDL. May decrease HDL
---------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Poly-Unsaturated Fats:
Oils from plants (corn, soybeans, cotton, sunflower, sesame)
Lowers LDL. Lowers HDL.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
4. (BEST) Mono-Unsaturated fats:
Olive and canola oil
Reduces LDL. Maintains HDL.
